Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet community situated in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" area. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently referenced, however her brief visit to the West Island was not. Brugel was an aspiring young lady living in Courtice Ontario, outside Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. However, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she was able to have. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. When I grew out of male companions, that's when I gave up. Many former dancers turn to acting and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of a high school drama teacher that encouraged her to go in that direction. The teacher recommended that she try out for a school production. Following a trial the role, she was chosen as the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. Over the last 20 years, her work has been seen on the small and big screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her character of Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian actor during Season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
